Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim from Abdullah ibn Abdullah ibn Umar, in the chapter on sitting in prayer: he saw his father Abdullah ibn Umar sit cross-legged in prayer when he sat, and did so himself while still young. His father forbade him and told him the sunna of prayer is to set the right foot upright and fold the left. When he said he did that too, his father replied that his feet could not carry him. The editor cites al-Bukhari, Abu Dawud, al-Tahawi, Abd al-Razzaq and al-Bayhaqi, and notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that the hadith enters the musnad because of Ibn Umar's words "the sunna of prayer is only". 1
