«الصلاة خير من النوم»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report from Malik that he was told the caller came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him) to call him to the dawn prayer, and found him asleep. He said, "Prayer is better than sleep", and Umar ordered him to put it in the dawn call. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab transmitted it from Malik, that Ibn Abi Shayba connected it through Hisham ibn Urwa from a man called Isma'il, and that al-Daraqutni gave it through two chains from Nafi' from Ibn Umar from Umar. Ibn Majah (716) raised it from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab from Bilal, on a weak chain, since Sa'id did not meet Bilal. 1
