Summary

The first hadith in the chapter on the call to prayer. Yahya transmits from Malik from Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari as a mursal: the Prophet ﷺ wanted to make two pieces of wood to strike to gather people for prayer. Abdullah ibn Zayd al-Ansari of the Banu al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj saw two pieces of wood in a dream and said they were like what the Messenger of God wanted. He was asked, "Will you not call people to prayer?" When he woke, he came to the Prophet and told him, and the Prophet ordered the call to prayer. The editor notes that the well-known raised, connected version is through Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Zayd from his father, and refers to al-Tirmidhi (189) and his commentary on it. 1
