«إن المصلي يناجي ربه، فلينظر بما يناجيه به، ولا يجهر بعضكم على بعض بالقرآن»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Sa'id from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Taymi from Abu Hazim al-Tammar from al-Bayadi, in the chapter on what is done in recitation: the Prophet ﷺ came out to people who were praying with their voices raised in recitation. He told them the one who prays is speaking intimately with his Lord, so he should watch what he speaks, and forbade some of them to raise their voices over others in the Qur'an. The editor says Abu Hazim al-Tammar is trustworthy, as Abu Dawud, Ibn Abd al-Barr and al-Ijli said, though Ibn Hajar called him acceptable. Al-Bayadi is Farwa ibn Amr of the Banu Bayada of the Khazraj, who witnessed al-Aqaba and Badr. The editor cites Ahmad, al-Nasa'i, al-Bayhaqi and al-Bukhari's Khalq Af'al al-Ibad, and refers to al-Tamhid. 1
