«استقيموا ولن تحصوا، واعملوا وخير أعمالكم الصلاة، ولا يحافظ على الوضوء إلا مؤمن»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report from Malik that he was told the Prophet ﷺ ordered steadfastness, with the reminder that encompassing all deeds is beyond human power, and made prayer the best of deeds, and said that guarding ablution is a sign of faith. The editor explains "Be steadfast and you will not number them" as not turning aside from what is prescribed for them, though they cannot encompass all deeds. Abu Mus'ab transmitted it the same way. The report joins a connected chain from Thawban in al-Tayalisi, Ahmad, al-Darimi, Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban, and from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may God be pleased with him) (may God be pleased with him) in Ibn Majah, and its text is sound. 1
