Overview

A branch of Hawazin, the people of Halima al-Sa'diyya, who nursed the Prophet. 1

In Ibn Hisham's biography

Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr sent to the Prophet a man of theirs called Dimam ibn Tha'laba as a delegate. See the arrival of Dimam. 2 When Dimam returned to them and spoke to them, the men and women of his settlement embraced Islam before that day was over. 3 The tribal index of the 1936 edition gives other places for the branch in the accounts of Hunayn. 4

In the birth section of The Sealed Nectar (pp. 55-57)

Abd al-Muttalib had the Prophet nursed by a woman of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr, Halima bint Abi Dhu'ayb. Her husband, al-Harith ibn Abd al-Uzza, was of the same tribe, and his paternal uncle Hamza was also nursed among them. 5 6 Halima describes their land (the lands of Banu Sa'd) as among the most barren, and their women used to go out to Mecca seeking nurslings in the years of drought. 7 8 The Prophet remained with them until his fourth or fifth year. 1 9

Dimam ibn Tha'laba comes as the envoy of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr

Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr sent Dimam ibn Tha'laba to the Prophet; he knelt his camel at the mosque door, walked in and asked which of them was Ibn Abd al-Muttalib, then adjured him by God on each duty in turn: did God send you? did He order us to worship Him alone and cast off the idols? the five prayers? zakat, fasting, hajj? and the Prophet answered each time, O God, yes. He testified, promised to add nothing and omit nothing, and the Prophet said: if the man with the two plaits is truthful he will enter Paradise; he went home and his people embraced Islam in a day. Ibn Ishaq's isnad reaches Ibn Abbas.
