Overview
Bukhara: a city on the Silk Road in present-day Uzbekistan, which was a centre of learning in the time of the Samanids. al-Maqdisi reports that no meat like its mutton is to be seen, and that they have a kind of melon called the saff. 1
In the book Futuh al-Buldan there is an account of the khatun of Bukhara and her peace with Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, and then her breaking of it in the days of Sa'id ibn Uthman, and the restoration of peace by a pledge. 2 What is said of the upbringing of Ibn Sina there needs an additional source.
