Overview
Waqid ibn Abd Allah al-Tamimi al-Yarbu'i, an ally of the Banu Adi ibn Ka'b 1. Musa ibn Uqba said in the campaigns: Waqid, also said Waqdan, took part at Badr, and Ibn Ishaq similarly mentions him among those who took part at Badr 1.
The expedition to Nakhla
Ibn Ishaq reports, from Urwa, that the Prophet ﷺ sent Abd Allah ibn Jahsh to Nakhla. In it, Waqid ibn Abd Allah came up to them having shaved his head, and they said: "These are umar (pilgrims); there is no harm to you from him." The Muslims then resolved to fight them, and "Waqid ibn Abd Allah shot Amr ibn al-Hadrami with an arrow and killed him". The verse of al-Baqara (2:217) was then revealed 1 2. For details, see the expedition to Nakhla. Abu Nu'aym reports the story, and al-Tabari reports it through al-Suddi 2.
Boasting and after
Abu Ubayda said: the Banu Yarbu' used to boast that among them was the first who killed a polytheist in Islam. Umar ibn al-Khattab composed verses about this, mentioning the spears that gave Ibn al-Hadrami to drink at Nakhla when Waqid kindled the war 2. Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab said, from Umayr: "I named my son Waqid after Waqid ibn Abd Allah al-Yarbu'i" 2. Ibn Abi Hatim said, from his father: this Waqid died at the beginning of the caliphate of Umar 2.
