Overview
Son of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him). He was born at the Farewell Pilgrimage, when the Prophet left al-Juhfa for Mecca, and so was named after him. 2
At Uthman's house
The people of Egypt proposed him to Uthman as their governor. Uthman wrote his appointment, and he went out with them from Medina. Then the letter of the governor of Egypt, hidden in a water-skin, appeared; he returned and sealed the letter. Al-Suyuti says that he was among those who climbed over the house of Uthman, and he took him by the beard. Uthman said to him that if his father had seen him, the place he had with him would have grieved him; his hand loosened, and he stood up. 2
In al-Mas'udi's account he took hold of Uthman's beard, and Uthman said something similar to him, and he went out, saying that he had not known of the two men's staying behind from him. 3
