Overview
Al-Baladhuri relates that Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr was appointed governor of Egypt twice in the caliphate of Ali, and was then killed and burned by Muawiya ibn Hudayj. 1
Egypt after Uthman's killing
Al-Baladhuri says that Muhammad ibn Abi Hudhayfa prevailed over Egypt after the killing of Uthman. Then Ali appointed Qays ibn Sa'd over it, and he removed him; he appointed Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, and he removed him and appointed Malik al-Ashtar, who fell ill at al-Qulzum. Then he returned Muhammad to it a second time. 1
