Overview

The atabeg Izz al-Din Mas'ud ibn Qutb al-Din Mawdud ibn Zangi, lord of Mosul. Ibn al-Athir says that when his nephew al-Malik al-Salih died in Aleppo in 577 AH and bequeathed it to him, he entered it on the twentieth of Sha'ban, and the people of Hama rose up in his emblem. 1

The swap

The garrison of Aleppo urged him to march on Damascus, but he refused, saying that there was an oath between them and he would not betray it. Then he handed Aleppo over to his brother Imad al-Din in exchange for Sinjar, and returned to Mosul. 1
