Overview
Imad al-Din Zangi ibn Qutb al-Din Mawdud ibn Zangi, lord of Sinjar and then of Aleppo. He was the brother-in-law of al-Malik al-Salih Isma'il ibn Nur al-Din. 1
Upbringing
Nur al-Din took charge of his upbringing, and loved him and favoured him. 1
Aleppo and Sinjar
When his nephew al-Malik al-Salih died in 577 AH, he bequeathed Aleppo to Izz al-Din Mas'ud, lord of Mosul, over him. He insisted on claiming it in exchange for Sinjar, and threatened to hand Sinjar over to Salah al-Din. He then took over Aleppo, and his brother took Sinjar from him. 1
Ibn al-Athir's account of his relations with the other parties is not completed by a second source. It needs an additional source.
