Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'a

Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'a — his name Amr, nicknamed "Dhu al-Rumhayn" (He of the Two Spears) — son of al-Mughira ibn Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Makhzum al-Qurashi al-Makhzumi, cousin of Khalid ibn al-Walid ibn al-Mughira ¹.

He was among the very first and emigrated both hijras; "then Abu Jahl deceived him until they returned from Medina to Mecca, and they imprisoned him." The Prophet used to pray for him in the qunut, as established in the two Sahihs from Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) ¹.

Al-Askari mentions that he witnessed Badr — and they refuted him; Ibn Hajar refers to the biography of Hisham ibn al-As al-Sahmi ¹.

His son Abdullah related from him from the Prophet on the sanctity of Mecca; Anas ibn Malik (may God be pleased with him) and Abd al-Rahman ibn Sabit also relate from him, and Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz and Nafi' client of Ibn Umar transmitted from him mursal ¹. Ibn Qani', al-Qarrab and others said he died in year fifteen in Syria in Umar's caliphate; it is also said he was martyred at al-Yamama, or at the Yarmuk ¹.
