Summary
Malik says that he heard from people of knowledge that they used to say the martyrs in God's path are not washed, and no prayer is said over any of them, and they are buried in the clothes in which they were killed. That is the Sunna for one killed in the battle who died before being carried away; but whoever is carried away and lives as long as God wills afterwards is washed and prayed over, as was done for Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him). 1
