Chain of transmission
Summary
Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Said that Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him) sent armies to Syria, and went out walking with Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan (may God be pleased with him), who was commander over one quarter of those divisions. They claimed that Yazid said to him: either you ride or I will dismount; Abu Bakr said: you will not dismount, and I will not ride; I count these steps of mine as in God's path. He then charged him with ten things, among them: do not kill a woman, a child, or a very old man; do not cut down fruit-bearing trees; do not ruin inhabited places; do not slaughter sheep or camels except for eating; do not burn bees; do not embezzle; and do not be a coward. The editor notes that the text is cited in the Muwatta as a report. 1
