Summary
Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn Abdallah, that Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan wrote to Hajjaj ibn Yusuf not to oppose Abdullah ibn Umar in anything concerning the pilgrimage. On the day of Arafat, when the sun had passed its zenith, Ibn Umar came, with Salim, and called out to him at his tent; Hajjaj came out, and Ibn Umar said: the advancing is the Sunna, if you want the Sunna. Hajjaj asked him to wait until water was poured over him. When he came out he walked between Ibn Umar and his father; Salim told him: if you want to follow the Sunna today, shorten the sermon and hasten the prayer; Ibn Umar confirmed him. 1
