«كان يحتجم وهو صائم، ثم ترك ذلك بعد، فكان إذا صام لم يحتجم حتى يفطر»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Chain of transmission
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on cupping while fasting. Malik transmits from Nafi, from Abdullah ibn Umar, that he used to cup while fasting, then later gave that up; when he fasted he would not cup until he broke his fast. The editor notes that Abu Musab, Suwayd and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Shaybani (355) transmitted it from Malik, and that al-Shafii transmitted it without the words 'then he gave that up'. 1
