Chain of transmission
Summary
The first hadith in the chapter on fasting while travelling. Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Ubaydallah ibn Abdallah ibn Utba ibn Masud, from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him), that the Messenger of God ﷺ set out for Mecca in the year of the conquest in Ramadan and fasted until he reached al-Kudayd, then broke his fast; the people broke their fasts too, and they followed the latest of the Messenger of God's orders, one after another. The editor notes that Abu Musab transmitted it from Malik, and through him Ibn Hibban and al-Baghawi; Suwayd, al-Qa'nabi (al-Bukhari 1944 and Abu Dawud), al-Tinnisi (al-Bukhari 1944), al-Shafii and Yahya ibn Yahya al-Nisaburi (Muslim) also; and refers to al-Tamhid (9/64). 1
