Summary
The Prophet circled the Ka'ba seven times on his mount and touched the Corner with his staff. With a rod in his hand he pointed at the three hundred and sixty idols that had been fixed with lead around the House, and they fell one after another while he recited «وقل جاء الحق وزهق الباطل إن الباطل كان زهوقا». Then he entered the Ka'ba and effaced the images and statues inside it. 1
Cleansing the House
The Prophet took the key from Uthman ibn Talha, opened the House, and entered it with Bilal, Usama ibn Zayd (may God be pleased with him) and Uthman ibn Talha. 2 Inside he saw images, among them a picture of Abraham casting lots with arrows. He ordered all of them effaced, while reciting a verse about Abraham's faith (its text is not reproduced here). 3 He found in it a dove made of wood, broke it with his noble hand and cast it down. 2
He then prayed two prostrations inside the House, between the two pillars. He ordered Bilal ibn Rabah to climb onto the roof of the Ka'ba and give the call to the noon prayer, the first call raised above the Sacred House. 4
The conversion of Fadala ibn Umayr
During the circumambulation Fadala ibn Umayr al-Laythi resolved to kill the Prophet. He drew close, and the Prophet said: "Fadala?" He said: "Yes." The Prophet said: "What were you saying to yourself?" He said: "Nothing; I was remembering God." The Prophet smiled, put his hand on Fadala's chest, and his heart was calmed. Fadala said: "By God, he did not take his hand off my chest before nothing in God's creation was more beloved to me than he was." 5
For young visitors
The Prophet entered the Ka'ba and removed its idols and images, so that the House became again a place for worshipping God alone, without statues. Bilal climbed onto the roof of the Ka'ba and gave the call to prayer in his beautiful voice, so that all the people of Mecca could hear it.
In the introduction to The Sealed Nectar
In the chapter on the religions of the Arabs, the author states that the polytheists had filled the Sacred Mosque with idols. When the Prophet conquered Mecca, he found three hundred and sixty idols around the House. He began to strike them until they fell, then ordered them taken out of the mosque and burned. 6 7
