Chain of transmission

  1. Malik ibn Anas
  2. Muhammad ibn Shihab al-Zuhri

Summary

Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab, from Muhammad ibn Jubayr ibn Mutim, from his father, that the Prophet ﷺ said: I have five names: I am Muhammad; I am Ahmad; I am the Eraser (al-Mahi) by whom God erases unbelief; I am the Gatherer (al-Hashir) at whose feet people are gathered; and I am the Last (al-Aqib). The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that Yahya narrated it as relayed, as most Muwatta transmitters did; that Ma'n ibn Isa narrated it connected from Malik to Jubayr ibn Mutim; and that al-Bukhari transmitted it, so the connected version takes precedence. 1
