Summary
It reached Malik that when the Prophet ﷺ put his foot in the stirrup wanting to travel, he would say a supplication asking God to fold the earth for him and ease his journey, and seeking refuge in Him from the hardship of travel, the sadness of return, and bad sights in property and family; and he said that God is the companion on the journey and the successor in the family. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that the hadith rests on sound routes, including the hadith of Abdallah ibn Sarjis in Muslim, and of Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) and Ibn Umar. 1
