Summary
A saying of Malik: the grains on which zakat is due are wheat, barley, spelt, maize, millet, rice, lentils, chickpeas, black-eyed peas, sesame, and the like that become food; zakat is taken from all of them after they are harvested and become grain. People are trusted in this, and what they give is accepted from them. The editor clarifies that spelt is a grain of the barley type without husk and sesame is sesame in its husk. 1
