Summary
A saying of Malik: the matter on which there is no dispute among us is that only palms and vines are estimated, and this is done when the fruit shows ripeness and its sale becomes due, because the fruit of palms and vines is eaten fresh and as grapes; it is estimated for their owners to give people leeway, so that no one is pressed, then they are left to eat it as they wish, and then pay zakat from it as estimated against them. 1
