Summary

A saying of Malik closing the chapter on zakat on debt: the practice among us is that a man in debt who has goods enough to cover his debt and has cash other than that on which zakat is due, pays zakat on the cash in his hand. If he has no goods or money except enough to cover his debt, no zakat is due until he has cash over his debt amounting to what is subject to zakat. 1
