Summary
Malik transmits from Rabia ibn Abi Abd al-Rahman that in the rule of Aban ibn Uthman, a man freed all his slaves, and he had no property other than them. Aban ibn Uthman ordered those slaves divided into thirds, then drew lots among them as to which lot the dead man's share would come out, and they were freed. The lot fell on one of the thirds, and the third on which the lot fell was freed. 1
