Summary
Malik transmits from Umar ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Dalaf al-Muzani, from his father, that a man from Juhayna used to outrun the pilgrims, buying mounts and overworking them, then running them hard to get ahead of the pilgrims. He became insolvent, and his case was brought to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), who said: O people, al-Usayfi', the Usayfi of Juhayna, was satisfied with his debts and his trust, that people say: he outran the pilgrims. Remember, he has taken on debts openly, and in the morning he has been consumed by them. Whoever has a debt owed to him by him, let him come to us in the morning, and we will divide his property among them. Beware of debt, for its beginning is worry and its end is war. 1
