«قَدْ حَللْتِ فَانُكِحي مَن شِئْتِ»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
Yahya transmits from Malik, from Abd Rabbihi ibn Said ibn Qays, from Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman, that Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) and Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) were asked about a pregnant woman whose husband died. Ibn Abbas said the later of the two terms. Abu Hurayra said once she has given birth she is free. Abu Salama went to Umm Salama, wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and asked her. She said Subayah al-Aslamiyya gave birth about half a month after her husband's death. Two men proposed to her, one young and one old, and she inclined to the young one. The old man said she was not yet free. Her family were absent, so she went to the Messenger, who said: you are free, marry whom you wish. 1
