«سَمُّوا اللهَ عَليْها، ثُمَّ كُلُوهَا»

A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father: the Messenger of God ﷺ was asked, and it was said to him that some people of the desert bring us meat and we do not know whether they mentioned God over it or not. He said: mention God over it, then eat it. The editor notes that the hadith is a mursal in all Muwatta transmitters, that most transmitters connected it to Aisha, and that Abu Zur'a al-Razi preferred the mursal form. 1
