Summary

The first report in the chapter on performing the ritual bath and calling and setting the iqama for the two festivals. Yahya transmits that he heard more than one of their scholars say that there was no call or iqama for the festivals of breaking the fast and sacrifice from the Prophet ﷺ's time until now. Malik said: that is the sunna about which we have no disagreement. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that Malik had no raised hadith on this chapter, though there are sound raised hadiths; and that it is a matter on which the scholars do not differ that there is no call or iqama at the two festivals, nor in any sunna or voluntary prayer, and this is the practice of the four caliphs, the Companions, the Successors and the jurists of the regions (al-Tamhid). 1
