Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Mahmud ibn al-Rabi' al-Ansari, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer: Attban ibn Malik used to lead his people in prayer although he was blind. He told the Prophet ﷺ that darkness, rain and flood come, and he was blind, and asked him to pray in his house in a place he could take as a prayer place. The Prophet came and asked where he wished him to pray, and Attban pointed to a place in the house, and he prayed there. In Yahya's version it is "Mahmud ibn Labid". The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said this is a clear error, since no transmitter from Malik or from Ibn Shihab gave it except Mahmud ibn al-Rabi'. He cites al-Bukhari, al-Nasa'i, al-Shafi'i and al-Bayhaqi from Malik's transmitters. 1 2
