  4. Muhammad

Summary

A report that Malik transmits as a mursal from Yahya ibn Sa'id from al-Nu'man ibn Murra, in the chapter on practice in the congregational prayer: the Prophet ﷺ asked his Companions what they thought about the drinker of wine, the thief and the fornicator, before a ruling had come down on them. They said God and His Messenger know best. He said these are abominations, and they carry punishments, and the worst theft is of a man who steals his prayer and does not complete its bowing or prostration. The editor notes Ibn Abd al-Barr's view that the transmitters did not differ on its mursal form, and that it is a sound hadith traced to Abu Hurayra (may God be pleased with him) and Abu Sa'id. The editor discusses the connected chains from Abu Sa'id, Abu Hurayra and Abu Qatada and holds that the claim of their soundness needs review. 1 2
