«من غدا أو راح إلى المسجد لا يريد غيره ليتعلم خيراً أو ليعلمه ثم رجع إلى بيته كان كالمجاهد في سبيل الله رجع غانماً»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Sumayy mawla Abi Bakr
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Sumayy, client of Abu Bakr, that Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman used to say, in the chapter on waiting for prayer and walking to it: whoever goes or comes to the mosque seeking nothing but to learn something good or teach it, then returns to his house, is like one who strives in God's path and returns with spoils. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab and Suwayd transmitted it, and that al-Zurqani cites Ibn Abd al-Barr that such a thing is not known by opinion, since it asserts a matter unseen about God's reward. 1
