«ما قصرت الصلاة وما نسيت. فقال له ذو الشمالين: قد كان بعض ذلك يا رسول الله»

A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources

Summary

A report that Malik transmits from Ibn Shihab from Abu Bakr ibn Sulayman ibn Abi Hathma as a report without a full chain, in the chapter on one who ends the prayer after two rak'as by forgetfulness: the Prophet ﷺ bowed two rak'as in one of the daytime prayers, noon or afternoon, and gave salam after two. Dhu al-Shimalayn, a man of the Banu Zuhra ibn Kilab, asked whether the prayer was shortened or whether he forgot. The Prophet said it was not shortened and he had not forgotten. Dhu al-Shimalayn said some of it had happened. The Prophet turned to the people and asked whether Dhu al-Yadayn spoke the truth; they said yes, and he completed what remained of the prayer and then gave salam. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab and Suwayd transmitted it, and that the report is broken in all of the Muwatta's transmitters. 1
