«من صلى ركعة لم يقرأ فيها بأم القرآن فلم يصل، إلا وراء الإمام»
A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources
Summary
A report that Malik transmits from Abu Nu'aym Wahb ibn Kaysan that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah (may God be pleased with him) say, in the chapter on the Mother of the Qur'an: whoever prays a rak'a without reciting the Opening chapter has not prayed, unless he is behind the imam. The editor notes that Abu Mus'ab, Isma'il ibn Musa al-Fazari, Suwayd, Ibn Wahb and Qutayba transmitted it in al-Tirmidhi (313), and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan transmitted it as a stopped report. Yahya ibn Salam al-Basri, who is weak, transmitted it raised from Malik in al-Tahawi, which is not sound. 1 2
