«كان رسول الله يكبر في الصلاة كلما خفض ورفع، فلم تزل تلك صلاته حتى لقي الله»

A verbatim excerpt of the text, forty words at most; the full text is in the edition cited under sources

Chain of transmission

  1. Malik ibn Anas
  2. Muhammad ibn Shihab al-Zuhri
  3. Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib
  4. Muhammad

Summary

A report that Malik transmits as a mursal from Ibn Shihab from Ali ibn Husayn ibn Ali (may God be pleased with him) ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him), in the chapter on opening the prayer: the Prophet ﷺ glorified God in the prayer at each lowering and raising, and that was his prayer until he met God. The editor says Ibn Abd al-Barr knew of no disagreement among the Muwatta transmitters that it is mursal, and whoever connected it from Malik through Ali ibn Husayn from his father or from Ali ibn Abi Talib erred; only the mursal form in the Muwatta is sound. 1
