Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Abd al-Rahman ibn Harmala
Summary
The first report in the chapter on dry ablution for one in sexual impurity. Yahya transmits from Malik from Abd al-Rahman ibn Harmala that a man asked Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab about a man in sexual impurity who performed dry ablution and then found water. He said that when he finds water he must bathe for what follows. The editor cites al-Bayhaqi's chain to Abu al-Zinad, that the seven jurists of Medina, among them Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, used to say that whoever performs dry ablution and prays, then finds water, does not repeat, but performs ablution and bathes for what follows; and that dry ablution from sexual impurity and from minor ablution are alike. 1 2
