Overview
In 298 AH the army of the amir Ahmad ibn Isma'il al-Samani marched to Sistan under al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Marwazi. The army besieged al-Mu'addal ibn Ali ibn al-Layth, the last of the Saffarid amirs there, and he made peace with them. 1
What happened
The commander Ahmad ibn Sahl, Muhammad ibn al-Muzaffar and Simajur al-Dawati were with him. Ahmad had marched to Abu Ali Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Layth at Bust and taken him prisoner. 1
After the conquest
The Samanids took Sistan and appointed Abu Salih Mansur ibn Ishaq over it. Al-Mu'addal and Subkari were carried to Baghdad, displayed on two elephants. 1
The source gives the month of Rajab 298 AH; the Gregorian conversion is derived and needs an additional source.
