Summary
In 526 AH a battle took place near Dinawar between the sultan Sanjar and his two nephews, Sulayman Shah and Mas'ud 2.
The battle and its consequences
Ibn al-Jawzi says Sanjar had 170,000 men and Mas'ud 30,000. About 40,000 were killed, and they died in a pre-Islamic manner, fighting for power rather than for religion. Tughril Atabeg Saljuq was killed. Mas'ud fled and came before Sanjar, who pardoned him and took him back under his protection. Sanjar then fixed the sultanate of Baghdad for Tughril Beg and returned to Khurasan 1.
