Overview
The demand and the caliph's reply
He also says that they gave their allegiance to al-Muqtafi on condition that he should not have horses or travel equipment; this is a report introduced by "it is said". Then in 531 AH the sultan seized the caliph's estates, and sent his vizier to demand a hundred thousand dinars. 2
Al-Muqtafi replied that al-Mustarshid had gone to him with his wealth, that al-Rashid had done what he did and taken what was left, and that the sultan had taken all the furniture and disposed of the mint, the estates and the poll-tax funds. He said that he had sworn to God that he would not take a single grain from the Muslims by injustice. 2
The end
The sultan stopped taking from the caliph. In Jumada al-Ula his lands, his dealings and the estates were returned to him. 2
