Accounts of the governorship
Asad came to Samarkand and appointed al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Mumarrita over it. The Turks used to raid Samarkand, and al-Hasan would flee and they would not catch up with him. The report says that he cursed them in his sermon, and the people of Samarkand answered him mockingly. Asad raided the mountains of Nimrud, and Ghurud made peace with him and became a Muslim; then he raided al-Khatt. He ordered the building of a city at Balkh and the moving of the registers there. He could achieve nothing in al-Khatt, and the people suffered harm and hunger.
Nasr ibn Sayyar
Word of something said about Nasr ibn Sayyar reached Asad, and he struck him and sent him to Khalid. Then Asad left Khurasan and left as his deputy al-Hakam ibn Awana al-Kalbi. 1
