Overview
Ibn al-Athir reports that in 367 AH, after Abu Taghlib and Bakhtiyar had been defeated, Adud al-Dawla marched toward Mosul and took it on 12 Dhu al-Qa'da, together with what was attached to it. 1
Adud al-Dawla's plan
Abu Taghlib expected him to do as others before him had done: stay a short time, then be forced to make peace and return. But Adud al-Dawla, in the narrator's words, was more prudent than that. He brought provisions and fodder, and those who knew the province of Mosul, settled there with confidence, and sent raiding parties in pursuit of Abu Taghlib. 1
Abu Taghlib sent asking to hold the lands in farm, and Adud al-Dawla did not answer him. He said: "This land is dearer to me than Iraq." 1
The Gregorian conversion is derived. An additional source is needed to confirm the date.
