Khubth (impurity; its removal)

الخبث

Khabath (impurity) lexically is whatever is disliked for baseness, sensible or not; technically it is the very substance of impurity. 1 2 It is distinguished from rijs (filth) and dans (dirt). 2 The jurists agree that removing impurity is commanded and differ on whether it is obligatory; the Hanafis, Shafiis and Hanbalis make its removal a condition of valid prayer except what is excused, while the Malikis have two views, sunna or obligation when one remembers and is able. 2 3 Four substances are agreed to be impurity: carrion of a land animal with blood, pig flesh, flowing blood, and a man's urine and dung. 3

The ruling on one who abandons prayer

Al-Sallabi quotes Ali: whoever does not pray is an unbeliever. He then reports from al-Nawawi the dispute over one who neglects prayer while believing it obligatory: the majority (Malik, al-Shafi'i) hold him a sinner to be asked to repent, others hold him an unbeliever, a view ascribed to Ali; Abu Hanifa and the Kufans hold him not an unbeliever but to be disciplined.
