Worship and the pillarsThe poor and the worker
Overview
Shaykh Shaltut presents spending in God's path as a pillar of building society, noting that the Qur'an in some suras mentions faith only coupled with spending 12. Feeding the poor and destitute is the steep pass that must be climbed to happiness, and failing to urge it is a mark of denying the religion 3. He draws three circles of spending: family and kin, the poor unable to work, and the public interests.
