Summary
Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may God be pleased with him)'s sermon answering those who denounced his truce with Muawiya, transmitted in the Jamhara from Ibn Qutayba's al-Imama wa-l-Siyasa among the sermons of the Hashimites. 1
Details
Al-Hasan praised God, then said: "You are our partisans and people of our affection, trusted in sincere counsel; I have understood what you said," and he swore by God and by them that he sought nothing by his decision but the sparing of blood and the reform of the community: "Fear God, consent, sit on your thorns and hold back your hands until a righteous man rests or a wicked one is given rest." 1
He recalled his father's report that Muawiya would take this affair, answered those who cried "humiliator of the believers" that he wished they would not be humbled, and ended by bidding every man stay in his own house. The compiler attributes the report to Ibn Qutayba's al-Imama wa-l-Siyasa. 2
