Overview
Ziyad ibn Labid al-Bayadi (may God be pleased with him) of the Ansar, a Companion. Al-Baladhuri's transmitters agree that the Prophet made him governor of Hadramawt, and when Abu Bakr became caliph he wrote to him assigning the governorship of Kinda and al-Sadif together with what he already held of Hadramawt. 1
He appears in the dispatch of the alms collectors as the Prophet's agent over Hadramawt and its alms. 2
In al-Isaba
Ibn Hajar gives him his own entry in al-Isaba, no. 2922: "Ziyad ibn Labid ibn Tha'laba ibn Sinan ibn Amir, the Ansari of the Bayadi clan"; he records that Musa ibn Uqba and others counted him among those who witnessed al-Aqaba and Badr, and that al-Waqidi and others recorded he was the Prophet's agent over Hadramawt, that Abu Bakr appointed him to fight the apostates of Kinda, and that it was he who overpowered al-Ash'ath ibn Qays and marched him to Abu Bakr. 3
