Overview
Salih ibn Abd al-Rahman, a client of the Banu Tamim, whose father was one of the captives of Sistan. According to al-Baladhuri, he wrote in Arabic and Persian for Zadan Farrukh ibn Bayri, the secretary of al-Hajjaj. Zadan Farrukh introduced him to al-Hajjaj, who came to favour him, and he transferred the register of the land tax of al-Sawad and all of Iraq into Arabic 1.
Iraq and its governance
He was appointed over Iraq. He was one of al-Hajjaj's fiercest opponents: he removed Muhammad ibn al-Qasim from Sind and imprisoned him at Wasit, in revenge for a brother of his whom al-Hajjaj had killed 2.
al-Salabi reports that Sulayman entrusted him with the land tax of Iraq, and that Yazid ibn al-Muhallab did not appoint him to the land tax because he judged that Salih had men of knowledge in matters of tax 3.
