Overview

Abu al-Qasim Mahmud ibn Sebuktigin, sultan of Ghazna, whom the caliph al-Qadir billah titled "Yamin al-Dawla wa Amin al-Milla" (Right Hand of the State and Trustee of the Community). 1

His policy in Khurasan

Ibn al-Jawzi relates that in 408 AH he complied with al-Qadir's call for the innovators to repent, and set in his governance in Khurasan and elsewhere the killing of the Mu'tazila, the Rafida, the Isma'ilis, the Qaramita, the Jahmiyya and the Mushabbiha, and their crucifixion and burning. He ordered them cursed from the pulpits and drove the people of innovation out of their homes. 1

The description of them as "innovators" is Ibn al-Jawzi's wording. No other view of these measures is recorded here, and it needs an additional source.

al-Qadir bi-llah Ahmad ibn Ishaq ibn al-Muqtadir

Abbasid caliph [381–422], Abu'l-Abbas Ahmad ibn Ishaq ibn al-Muqtadir, born 336; hailed after al-Ta'i's deposition, arriving 10 Ramadan. Al-Khatib: famed for piety and night-prayer, he studied fiqh under Abu Bishr al-Harawi and wrote an usul book — Companions' virtues and takfir of the Mu'tazila — read every Friday at al-Mahdi's mosque; in Shawwal he and Baha' al-Dawla swore mutual fidelity, the caliph granting him all beyond his gate.
