جعدة بنت الأشعث بن قيس

جعدة بنت الأشعث بن قيس

A wife of al-Hasan ibn Ali (may God be pleased with him); in the account given, Yazid ibn Mu'awiya suborned her to poison him with a promise of marriage — she did so, and when she claimed the promise after his death he answered: 'we did not approve you for Hasan — shall we approve you for ourselves?' 1.

Overview

Ju'da daughter of al-Ash'ath ibn Qays, the wife of al-Hasan ibn Ali. In a report in al-Suyuti, Yazid ibn Muawiya sent word to her that she should poison him and that he would marry her; she poisoned him. When he died and she asked Yazid to keep his word, he said that he had not wanted her for al-Hasan, so he would not want her for himself. 2

The account is given as "in the report" and the museum does not vouch for it; it needs an additional source.
