Overview

Ibn al-Jubrani, a man of letters and philology and teacher of al-Shihab al-Shawwa'. He is attributed to the village of Jubrin Qursatayya in the district of Azaz, and lived in Aleppo. Ibn Khallikan in Wafayat al-A'yan says that he was well versed in literature and that language predominated in him. 1

He had a teaching position in the great mosque of Aleppo, in the eastern enclosure. Ibn Khallikan heard him speak on the rule of the triliteral verbs that begin with a waw. Ibn Khallikan relays from Ibn al-Sha'ar that he knew the sciences of the Qur'an, language and grammar, and that he gathered wealth from which no one benefited. 1

He was born on 22 Shawwal 561 AH and died in Aleppo on 7 Rajab 628 AH, and was buried on the slope of Mount Jawshan. The Gregorian conversion is derived and approximate. 1
