Overview
The frontier of India
Abd Allah ibn Amir sent him to scout the frontier of India. The sources report that he described to Uthman lands whose water was scant and whose fruit was poor: if the army was small in them it was lost, and if it was large it went hungry. No one then campaigned there. 2. Al-Mas'udi has that he set out with a hundred men of Basra among those who rose against Uthman. 2
Basra and the arrival of Talha and al-Zubayr
Uthman ibn Hunayf (may God be pleased with him) appointed him chief of police in Basra. When Talha, al-Zubayr and Aisha made for Basra, he advised Ibn Hunayf to stop them, but Ibn Hunayf refused. 3
Then he set out with seven hundred men of Abd al-Qays against Ibn al-Zubayr when he came to the town of al-Rizq. He fought him, and Hakim and seventy of his companions were killed. 3 It is reported that Suhaym struck off his neck; this is a report that Ibn Khallikan transmits. 3
